Loony Dook

From Wikipedia: The name "Loony dook" is a combination of "Loony" (short for "lunatic") and dook, a Lowland Scots term meaning "dunk". A recently instituted charity fundraising event whereby people dive into the freezing waters of the Firth of Forth on New Year's Day, often in fancy dress. In recent years the event has attracted people from all over the world, including many people visiting Edinburgh to celebrate Hogmanay.

Basically you show up on the morning on new year's day, make a donation to charity, march through the streets with the bagpipes in fancy dress or your skivvies while doing shots of scotch along the way. Fine the guys in the nightgowns in the photos below, they were my favorites. Good times. :-)
